Radiation Oncology 

Douglas J. Rivera, MD, is a board-certified cancer specialist and board-certified radiation oncologist.

Educational Background

Dr. Rivera earned his medical degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Dr. Rivera was a clinical research fellow at Harvard and the Mayo Clinic. He completed an internal medicine internship at Columbia University prior to completing a residency in Radiation Oncology at Duke University, where he also served as Chief Resident.


Awards & Research

Dr. Rivera has been recognized numerous times as one of the area's best doctors including most recently the Austin Monthly's Top Doctors 2023 list.

He has been awarded the Outstanding Student in Rural Health Award; American Federation for Medical Research – Gastroenterology Research Award; American College of Physicians – National Student Abstract Award; and the Western Student Medical Research Forum – Excellence in Research Award.

Dr. Rivera has received the American Brachytherapy Society – Seattle Prostate Brachytherapy Fellow Award and has published articles in Surgery; Transplantation Proceedings, International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics, JAMA Oncology, and the Lancet Oncology. He is a member of the American College of Radiology, the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology & Oncology, and the American Brachytherapy Society.
